She came trembling up the stairs eyes wide hands clutching her hair, I asked "what's wrong? Please talk to me." She said "can't you see, nothing can be done! "The tears poured down her face, something extinguished her light. She looked at me and said “nothing can save us, it wants us dead.” “Darling as the man who loves you I know what I must do...grit my teeth, clench my fists, and invite this Hell through our door.” “YOU OBVIOUSLY DON'T UNDERSTAND, I'M THE DOUBT, THE FEAR IN YOUR HEAD. POUND YOUR DRUMS AND CONJUR YOUR NERVE, BUT I SEE THROUGH YOU. I SEE THE SHAME YOU LIVE WITH, A MOMENT'S REGRET AT THE FOREFRONT OF YOUR MIND. I KNOW WHY YOUR HEART RACES WITH DISTANT VISIONS OF BETRAYING MANKIND.” “I'VE BEEN WITH YOU SINCE YOUR SEED WAS SEWN AND I'VE WITNESSED EVERY STONE YOU'VE THROWN. I KNOW WHAT KEEPS YOU UP AT NIGHT AND WHAT KEEPS YOUR DREAMS FROM TAKING FLIGHT.” “I EXIST TO DESTROY ANY NOTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE OF BEING A HERO OR MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THIS WORLD. YOU OPENED YOUR DOOR WITH ARROGANCE AND INSOLENCE READY TO SWING SOLELY FOR PRIDE…AND IN DOING SO, SEALED YOUR FATE.” “Since you know me so well, hear this and feel it as I do: you've threatened murder, you've wrought terror, you've tried to dismantle me from mine. With the conviction of a desperate man I have no other choice but to fight, fight.”

Siren Song 03:04
Standing at the edge, I peer in wonder, at the simplicity of how easily the end can meet me. The end of envy, the end of guilt, the end of violence sewn in what I've built. The end of worry, the end of fear, the end of anguish over why I’m here. We need to believe that thought carries on, For legacy, for love, everything we’ve tried to become Image and memory, are not enough To live now and unravel who we are We must, taste the blood, that accompanies the plunge To dwell on breath that invokes the shivering invitation To dine with the gods of oblivion We neglect our reason And yet I cannot escape the siren song of the great beyond (close your eyes) And the imagined justice, of a balanced scale (close your eyes) And the imagined peace that follows with (close your fucking eyes) I hold no stance (I hold no stance) that I’ll exist (that I’ll exist), I hold no stance that I’ll exist in the end But I need to believe, I need to believe that I will still see And I need to believe you will still think about me I need, to believe, you will still think of me

Out there, amidst the smoke-filled shade, Grow the roots of a menace mankind cannot contain Condemned to the soil, food for the worms The darkness and our doubt most vital allies It’s the cold kiss on our cheek as we sleep The downed limb that won’t burn to give us heat The distant glowing eyes awaiting their turn to eat We throw ourselves into this tortuous abyss Seeking companionship in the dirt from which we came In the muck and the mire we sit in reverie Contemplating how to conquer our fears and master wits Traversing terrains to discover something to settle insecurities With a heightened sense of things We whisper grievances to trees, And in desperation we sing with cicadas to decipher their hymns We raise arms as sails to the sky Hoping the wind will lead us to where we can fully live and ultimately die Though I know too well, there’s no reason to be found in madness As fire burns fuel to ash for the breeze to carry to a new home I realize, “all we are is dust in the wind”, And what’s to come won’t save much grace for the likes of me
